It is 1836. Stephenson's Rocket, the engine that won the Rainhill Trials, now works on the Earl of Carlisle's railway in the Cumberland fells, just south of the Scottish border. You are her driver.
How to drive
Everything is worked on the engine itself. Swing the red handbrake on the tender to OFF, lift the red gab and push the grey valve lever forwards, then pull the brass regulator to go. Once she is rolling, drop the gab so the wheels work the valves.
The engine has no brakes of its own. To stop, shut the regulator, lift the gab, pull the valve lever back and open the regulator a little: the steam pushes against the pistons.
Drag coal or logs from the tender into the fire. If the fire goes out, put logs in and tap the fire to light it.
Watch the pressure gauge. If it gets into the red, hold the safety valve lever on top of the firebox!
Stop with the water barrel under a water tank and pull its chain. Hold the coal stage to load fuel.
The blue feed cock lets water run from the barrel into a cold boiler.
Wet rails are slippery: open the regulator gently in rain and mist.
Press X-Ray to see inside the engine, or Thermal to see what is hot and what is cold.

You did it!
You woke up the Rocket and drove her all by yourself. Keep the fire fed, the water topped up and the needle out of the red.
